Not a tool, but a framework: How BCG gets data to the right place at the right time

by: Klara Moser (BCG Central Europe) | Marketing Intelligence at BCG
Anyone can collect data. The real challenge is making it actionable and integrating it into decision-making. In the “Data & Insights Experts” interest group, Klara Moser (BCG Central Europe) provided insights into building a scalable, modular system for media and marketing intelligence.
Marketing Intelligence is a framework, not a tool
The key shift in perspective at BCG: Marketing intelligence is viewed not as a tool, but as a strategic framework. It is based on a unified, interconnected database of media, market, and stakeholder data. The goal is not analysis for its own sake, but rather the operational application of this intelligence—from strategy through implementation.
Scaling Through Modularization
Instead of a “one-size-fits-all” approach, BCG relies on modular solutions tailored to specific use cases: dashboards, API briefings, and reports. Use cases range from local communication and public affairs management to campaign management and executive briefings.
This allows the system to scale without overwhelming the team: Each use case receives exactly the format it needs, drawn from the same database.
From Insight to Impact in 48 Hours
A concrete example illustrates just how quickly this can work: An ad hoc briefing on ESG communication was put together within two days and used directly in the leadership workshop. When data quality, systems, and processes work together, marketing intelligence delivers results almost in real time.
Conclusion
The BCG case study shows that the value of data isn’t created in the dashboard, but at the moment of decision-making. Personalization, automation, and a clear framework bring reporting and impact together. The key is to get data to the right place at the right time.
