The Work Trend Index was conducted among 31,000 full-time or self-employed knowledge workers in 31 markets between February 15 and March 28, 2024. This shows that the use of generative AI has almost doubled in the last six months, with 75% of respondents using it. Given the workload, employees bring their own AI to work. For example, 78% state that they use their own AI tools and do not wait until they are introduced by the respective companies. In addition, 52% of respondents do not mention this. The result: considerable risks in terms of data security. In addition, companies cannot fully exploit the transformative potential of AI in this way.

While executives agree that AI is a business imperative, many believe their organization lacks a plan and vision to move from individual benefits to applying AI to drive business results. The implementation of AI tools also requires new skills. Nevertheless, only 25% of companies are planning to offer their employees training on generative AI this year. At the same time, 76% of employees state that these skills are essential in order to remain competitive in their work.
