Technological transformations, social changes and rising stakeholder expectations mean that the role of the Chief Communication Officer is expanding and transforming. The report examines the dynamics that shape today’s corporate communications. He outlines the expanded strategic role of CCOs in leading organizations and highlights their central role in multi-stakeholder engagement and governance. Surveys, in-depth interviews and extensive discussions with Page member CCOs were conducted for this purpose.

The results show: CCOs are playing an increasingly important role in transformation processes. They build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, which makes them valuable partners. The area of responsibility for communication is constantly growing, with almost 75% of CCOs responsible for managing the corporate brand and increasingly taking on tasks in ESG, public affairs and HR. In addition, the adaptation of CommTech is accelerating and communication departments are increasingly using data. With CommTech, we are entering an era of “performance communications” in which AI enables hyper-personalized dialogues and rapid progress in the stakeholder journey. At the same time, CCOs and their teams need to adapt quickly to the availability of new technologies, especially AI.
