Cision: 2023 AI Media Landscape Report

The 2023 AI Media Landscape Report aims to provide an understanding of how traditional media treat the topic of AI, how social media users think and talk about AI and what this says about public perception. The study covers the AI media landscape from July 1, 2022 to July 31, 2023 and is based on the automated analysis of online news, blogs and social media posts that mention artificial intelligence in the context of real-life situations.

The report shows: Discussions about the impact of AI on the labor market and the creative industries dominated conversations in the traditional media and accounted for around a quarter of the total volume in each case, followed by discussions about data protection. Traditional media topics focused more on data protection and ethics compared to social media. Public relations (PR) media accounted for 32% of the total volume of AI conversations. Mentions of AI in industry were led by the information technology sector, which held 39% of the top 15 company mentions by volume, followed by social media (26%) and electronics (19%). Twitter, Google, Microsoft, Meta and IBM received the most mentions by volume, while OpenAI achieved the highest percentage of news media compared to PR media.
