Reuters Institute: Digital News Report 2022
The Reuters Institute’s 11th Digital News Report includes new insights on digital news consumption from more than 93,000 online news consumers in 46 markets on 6 continents. It documents how the relationship between journalism and the public is changing. For example, it shows that trust has declined over the past year and that interest in news has also waned. It also becomes clear that young people, social natives, consume news differently than previous generations. They are less likely to visit traditional news websites, but instead seek information mainly via social media – including in video and audio format. At the same time, the amount of available offers and information continues to increase. This year’s data also confirms that various shocks in recent years (e.g. Covid-19) have accelerated the structural shift towards a more digital, mobile and platform-dominated media environment. In order to stand out from the crowd and be convincing, the needs of the target groups must be given even greater attention, and business models and formats must be rethought. It is also important to use data to measure the success of the publications. The report is available free of charge and is based on an online representative panel survey of around 3,500 Internet users, which has been conducted annually since 2011. The complete Social Media Atlas 2022 is available free of charge for members of the CommTech AG. If you are interested, please contact joerg.forthmann@faktenkontor.de.
