For some, it is the indispensable <em>single source <\/em><em>of<\/em><em>truth<\/em>, for others it is a digital black hole full of unread content. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the latest meeting of the <strong>AG <\/strong><strong>CommTech<\/strong><strong> IK interest group<\/strong>, communication managers openly discussed where intranets really stand today &#8211; beyond tool promises, buzzwords and wishful thinking.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result: <strong>no patent remedy, but clear areas of tension, recurring patterns and uncomfortable truths<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. orientation vs. interaction: less <\/strong><strong>social<\/strong><strong>more clarity?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many organizations report a clear trend:<br\/><strong>away from the unfiltered <\/strong><strong>social<\/strong><strong> intranet &#8211; towards more curated, structured platforms.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Formerly:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Many communities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>anyone could post<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High level of activity, but also excessive demands<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Centralized control through communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clear home pages, sliders, focus topics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Significantly fewer likes &amp; comments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Thesis 1:<\/strong><br\/>\ud83d\udc49 <em>The higher the orientation, the lower the visible interaction.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is often reflected positively by employees (&#8220;finally an overview&#8221;), but presents communication teams with a dilemma:<br\/>How much dialog is realistic &#8211; and when does &#8220;more social&#8221; become an imposition?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. high quality content \u2260 high usage<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A key takeaway from the discussion:<br\/><strong>Internal storytelling <\/strong><strong>also follows <\/strong><strong>the rules of news value<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many teams invest in:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>long reading pieces<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scrollytelling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>high-quality reports<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sobering reality:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Everyday topics perform better<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strategic content needs clear translation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;Currywurst beats corporate strategy&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Thesis 2:<\/strong><br\/>\ud83d\udc49 <em>Relevance beats brilliance<\/em><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This does not mean giving up on quality.<br\/>But: <strong>strategy needs docking points<\/strong><strong> and clear <\/strong><strong>news value<\/strong><strong> in the everyday lives of employees<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">IK does not lose its relevance due to the great interest in the lunch menu vs. the CEO message, on the contrary: IK knows how to make topics\/messages relevant \/ how to present them in such a way that they are perceived.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3. single source of truth &#8211; <\/strong><strong>but<\/strong><strong> please <\/strong><strong>with<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>channel mix<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The intranet alone is not enough.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reality in many companies:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8220;I only read what comes by email&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teams as the main work interface<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Viva Engage \/ Social tools for dialog<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Newsletter as a bridge<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Thesis 3:<\/strong><br\/>\ud83d\udc49 <em>Single source of truth <\/em><em> does not<\/em><em>mean<\/em><em> single channel.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Successful communication is accepted:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>different personas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Different media habits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Different attention spans<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The channel mix is not a sign of weakness &#8211;
